Gunnarsnäs and Koski Tl: Two New Battery Storage Projects Enter Commercial Operations

During autumn 2026, Olana Energy brought two new battery storage projects online in Southwest Finland. The projects in Gunnarsnäs (10 MW / 10 MWh) and Koski Tl (7 MW / 8 MWh, pictured above) are now connected to Caruna's 20 kV distribution network and actively participating in Finland's ancillary services markets through Fingrid's balancing platform. With these two additions, Olana's operating portfolio in Finland reaches five sites and 48 MWh of total installed capacity.

From development to commercial operations

Both projects followed Olana's established development process, from securing land rights and grid connection agreements, through permitting and financial close, to construction and commissioning. Financial close for both projects took place in late 2025. Construction was managed simultaneously across both sites by Olana Energy Construction Oy, the group's construction company, working with a team of leading, experienced local and national contractors.

Equipment and integration

Both projects are built on the same proven technology platform deployed consistently across Olana's Finnish portfolio. The battery systems are utility-grade, containerised units designed for continuous cycling in frequency regulation markets and built to deliver reliable performance over a multi-decade asset life. Grid protection, relay settings and selectivity calculations were independently verified ahead of commissioning, and all electrical safety inspections were completed and certified before the sites entered live operation.

Into operation

Both assets have entered market operations and are now participating in Finland's ancillary services markets, dispatched through Olana's trusted third-party trading and optimisation partner.

Portfolio status

Gunnarsnäs and Koski Tl bring Olana's Finnish fleet to five operating assets totalling 48 MWh across Turku, Selkiö, Siilinjärvi, Gunnarsnäs and Koski Tl. All five assets are owned and operated by Olana, developed in-house, built under full-wrap EPC contracts by the group's own construction company, and managed commercially throughout the asset lifecycle.

The build continues. With Ristimäki (30 MW / 34 MWh) entering commissioning during the coming months and Šalčininkai (70 MW / 140 MWh) under construction in Lithuania, the portfolio is set to grow significantly. Read more at olana.fi/projects
